The damage is beginning in Texas and Louisiana. As the updated projected path of Rita shows (below, from Houston Chronicle), the mail brunt of the storm will be focused on Port Aurthur/Beaumont, Texas to Cameron, Louisiana.
ABC13 (KTRK) and NBC (KPRC) in Houston are reporting that military convoys have been arriving at the Reliant Center in Houston. These convoys of military trucks are carrying personell and equipment like Search & Rescue teams and Swift Water Rescue Teams (Urban SnR). The Reliant Center arena has been set-up as a Command Center for the region. The news made a point to remind everyone that the Reliant Center is NOT a relief shelter but a relief command center. The Red Cross has disaster Relief Teams assembling there as well. Relief resources are assembling there: over 100 ambulances from all over the country (ex. Arkansas, California), 15-20 fire fighting vehicles, Coast Guard and National Guard personell, as well. Though, the brunt of the storm does not appear to be heading for Houston, the command center personell massing there will be deployed to effected areas when needed.
